There are sober living homes, oxford houses, and halfway houses. Each has a slightly different approach in serving clients yet are on the same mission. Sober living homes are managed by a house manager and provide the most freedom for clients.
Sober living homes are best suited for patients that have completed a detox or residential program and an intensive outpatient program. The homes are structured with chores, meeting requirements, and drug testing to ensure sobriety, but do not have clinical or medical support. Residents are required to pay rent at sober living homes.
Are a reentry into the community after incarceration. Sometimes patients from inpatient programs will be referred to halfway houses. Halfway houses have more structure, staff on site, and are licensed with medical staff available.

Are self governed; there is no staff of outside contributions. The residents share expenses and responsibilities.
Provide a structured and supportive environment for individuals in recovery from substance use. Unlike halfway houses, they do not have medical staff on-site but offer a safe, substance-free space where residents can focus on rebuilding their lives. These homes serve as a bridge between inpatient treatment and independent living, helping individuals develop healthy routines, accountability, and a strong foundation for long-term sobriety.
